Summer has a feel to me. Well, really, all seasons have a feel, but I especially love summer. And Fall. And the first winter snowstorm, but after that, I have no use for winter.
Summer 2001 I spent in lovely, lovely Los Angeles at Loyola University taking a three week class on political theory. It was heaven in every.single.way. Blue skies. Trips to the ocean, 70 degrees, blue skies, perfection, road trips, poker, and oh yeah, I read Aristotle and Plato and learned a lot from a brilliant professor.
Summer 2002 I had just moved into my apartment. No Air Conditioning and it was HOT ALL THE TIME. Luckily for me, Nelly released in “Hot in Herre.” It became my unlikely theme song of that summer, and even now, when I hear it, I remember the unbearable heat of that apartment.
Summer 2003 I spent taking a month long class at Georgetown University in DC. It was hot, humid, and not nearly as fun as Los Angeles. I spent most of the month wandering around DC in the heat and sick from the horrible dorm food. I learned that if I were a “coast” kind of girl, it would definitely be West Coast.
Fast forward to 2010. It hasn’t felt like summer to me, until this week. Apparently I need water for it really feel like summer. A trip to the lake, afternoons at the pool. Something water related.
Lorie’s been in town and I took a ton of pictures at the pool, but this marked up, edited up, version is my favorite:
Shortly after this picture was taken, Lorie’s seven year old son jumped in the water and said something to the effect of “this water’s colder than a bunch of vaginas.” Now, I can’t be certain what came before the v-word because we were so stunned by it that our minds were momentarily cleared of all else.
Lorie: “Where did you learn that word??”
Josh: “I made it up.”
Lorie: “Umm nooo…. you certainly did not.”
Ahh…..Summer 2010 is officially here.

I have to admit… I’m not a summer person. My favorite season is fall because of the colors and the cooler weather. I typically wilt in the summer.
But, my favorite activity in the summer is to go to the beach, buff-puff with the sand, play in the surf, and bake in some SPF 50. Now, if I could do that everyday between June 1st and September 1st, I’d be a happy camper.
