Thankful

Tonight on Twitter, I wrote, “Think my life must be pretty good when I look at the black friday ads and don’t see anything I can’t live without…”  and while life has its challenges, I think that little Tweet holds a lot of meaning for me.  Sure there are things I would like to have, but anything I’m willing to wait in line for hours to get? No.

I have the best friends in the world.  They take care of me when I need it, listen to me incessantly, and are an endless well of support to me.   I am so thankful for the role they play in my life and I often feel that I take so much more from them than I could ever give back.

It’s been a long week with Adam sick again, this time with petechiae on his little cheeks, high fevers, and general grumpiness.  An urgent doctor visit, blood work, and chest xray’s revealed nothing.  It must be some sort of virus that we have to ride out.  The constant roller coaster of illness and worry is exhausting and wearing on both Ismael and I.

So this holiday, I’m most thankful for my friends and family who have helped me out in so many ways the past few days, months, years.

On a more fun note, other things I’m thankful for in no particular order:

  1. Oprah gave me a year’s warning of her impending retirement.  I’d better do something soon if I’m going to be on her show!
  2. This squash soup, paired with a pan cooked steak smothered with bleu cheese, onions, and mushrooms.  Seriously.  Even Ismael said, “Good job,” which he NEVER says.
  3. Some of my favorite shows run several seasons a year.  Brilliant.
  4. The DVR, so I can actually watch the shows in fast forward and cut out the boring parts.  More brilliant.
  5. My husband (remember this list is in no particular order), even when he does bizarre things like throw all of the covers and pillows on the floor and leave it that way or when he leaves the fridge door open all day and then argues that he didn’t and everything in there (that is room temp) is fine.
  6. My job.  So many are without.
  7. My pediatrician who worked tirelessly to get a hold of me yesterday to tell me Adam’s test results were okay, but first asked me how I was doing.
  8. and.so.much.more.

But at the top of the list?   This guy:
