I’m So There

You know those State Farm commercials with the big red dot?  Where the guy is facing some major life change and he stands on the dot and says, “I’m so there.”

Well I’m there.  Right there.

I am fed up with every single thing I have and want all new. New dishes.  New pans.  New furniture.  New table. New washer and dryer. New bed.  New, new, new.  Ismael better watch his step or I’ll trade him in too.

I’m there.

Unfortunately, I don’t live THERE.  I live HERE.  And I’d better get happy about HERE because it ain’t changing anytime soon.

So tonight I get up from a perfectly comfortable spot on the loveseat with Ismael to go rearrange the bedroom.  At 9 PM.  Because I’m full of the crazy awesome.

He stuck his head in the door to tell me goodbye because he was tired of living with insanity going to work.  He asked, “are you done yet?” as I was sitting on the edge of the bed, which was in a totally new spot, working to disconnect all things cable/internet/modem and find a way to move that too.

“Uh. No.”

He didn’t know I was going to move things around and his reaction to this is usually one of non-reaction.  He came home to our old apartment one day to find the living room in such disarray that he couldn’t open the door wide enough to get in.

Ismael doesn’t get irritated with me for taking on projects that seem unnecessary to him.  Instead he closes with, “Don’t wake the baby.”  Which, of course, I have no intention of doing directly, but I AM going to vacuum our bedroom so I hope Adam is on board with that.

Which is nice.  After living with my father for so many years who got irritated by every little thing that any one ever did and is one of the most judgmental people on earth, living with my husband is easy.

Of course, I will never hear any of the following phrases during one of these projects either:

“You look (pick one:  tired, crazy, stressed, stupid, in over your head, pinned under a mattress, electrocuted, pissed off)  can I help you?”

Oh no.  Because as he would say, “This is your project.  This is your business.”  As long as the bed is made and stationary when its time for him to go to sleep, he will accept whatever location he finds it in when he comes home.

Of course, as I take a break to write this, I find that the Internet is not functioning.  Back to the bedroom to see what I’ve screwed up…..

I hear you, Janet! I also want to be “there” instead of “here” most days. Don’t get me wrong, “here” has a lot of people and things I love, but I always envision “there” of being less stressful and possibly more fun. Probably wouldn’t be (I mean, I’m sure there is a ton of stress trying to figure out what to do with all the extra money in the bank account after paying the bills), but it looks good from over here. I do want you to know, though, that your blog makes me smile every. single. time. I read it. Sorry you can’t take that to the bank, but it’s all I’ve got for ya right now! ;-)
