Welcome to Toddlerdom: Low Grade Fevers and Snot

I feel like I should rewrite the title of my blog:  life and mild illness with a soon to be toddler, because, wow.  Do they ever get well?  Or is toddlerdom one long low grade fever interrupted with bouts of snot?

I think I know the answer to that question already.

The overwhelming theme of the week has been work, work, work trying to get caught up on grading from my lengthy absence the previous weeks.  In the meantime, Adam’s low grade annoying as hell ninetynine.point.something.that.is.not.normal returned.  Back to Tylenol and Motrin around the clock.

Except last night it didn’t work and the fever crept up bit by bit hovering around 100.1.

Now I know that is not a freak out take him to the ER fever, BUT it was only 100.5 when we had a freak out take him to the ER kind of seizure.

I stayed home with him today and went back to the doctor to further pad his children’s college savings account.

I like our doctor though because he isn’t a laid back wait and see kind of guy.  He knows that many illnesses are viral, BUT he also understands that many kids start with a virus and end up with croup, sinus infections, etc. and they need some kind of medicine.  So today, after a check of his ears (perfect!), and his lungs (bravo!), he looked up his nose and said, “wow. There’s a lot of junk up there!”

And now?  I’m on my way to pick up some amoxicillin while Adam sleeps off his current 99.8 fever with his liver’s best friend, children’s Tylenol.

Here’s to a healthier, happier weekend.

  1. Yea you hit the nail on the head. I dont know many toddlers that dont stay snotty most of the toddler years and from what i gather so far with Phabian and MJ in school now it doesnt get better when they are exposed to 15 other kids everyday lol.

    Hopefully he feels better soon!

  2. Ah, amoxicillin. Someday, they’re going to figure out that that stuff cures mother’s insanity. Maybe.
