My Expectations Are Clearly Too High

Dear ATT Uverse -

Okay first let me say that I love, love, love your DVR service.  The ability to record four channels at once means Ismael can record three of the major news networks at once and I might have a channel left to watch for myself,  unless he happens to be home, in which case I have to sit on the remote control like a hen on an egg.  But that is neither here nor there.

Now, I should know better than to expect any kind of quality customer service at 12:15 am, yet, because I am a glutton for punishment or simply stupid, I logged onto ATT Uverse and got started.

A friend recently gave us a really nice television when he moved back to Africa, so yea us!  I was having trouble getting the aspect ratio from the DVR to the television correct.

Without boring you with the details, like I did your customer service agent, let me simply say that with the new settings,  we cannot see what channel we are on nor the left half of the name.  Now if you are watching Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, or Wolf Blitzer it is not a problem – because they tell you every 3.6 seconds who they are and what their show is.  Shameless self promoters that they are.

I could have called, but frankly, who has energy for that at that hour of the night?

I described the problem to your agent in as clear and concise language as possible.

And after I endured the agent’s “smiles” and “winks”  where he literally took the time to write those words out so frequently I began to believe he was flirting, I found myself writing, “If you don’t know how to fix the issue, it’s really okay, I’ll just call back tomorrow,” because it was clear to everyone but him that he had noooo idea what to do.

A few more *smiles* and *winks* later, he assured me that no, he wanted to fix my problem and then merrily took me down the garden path of trying every random button on the remote control.

AUUUGH!  If your agents do not know what they are doing, then TELL ME and I will deal with it later.  Go ahead, just admit incompetence.  I won’t judge and I certainly won’t blog about it, but don’t jack me around and waste my time in the middle of the night for heaven’s sake.

Sincerely,

Your biggest fan.

Your post made me laugh.. which is a hard thing to do at this hour of the night when I only have one eye open.

I so want to try ATT just for the DVR but I promised myself back when they charged me over $1/min to call Europe and refused to remove the charges, then later had a class action lawsuit against them for overcharging people that I’d never trust them again. I suppose they’ve probably changed but I’m still a bit leery.

It does sound like the tech had the hots for you. haha. That’s hilarious. I’m sure it gets a bit boring for them sitting there waiting to chat w/ someone.

Also, while I’m here I wanted to thank-you for stopping by my blog and actually leaving a comment! That is so rare lol. So thank-you :) Nice to meet you btw.

I’m worried that Ismael and I are televisionally incompatible, which is something that I thought that I enjoyed only with my own husband.

Incompatibility certainly exists in my house as well…not so much with the hubs but taking into account the daughters…I just have ended up getting out of the habit of watching much television.

And oh you were sooo brave to try to deal with a tech person of any sort whatsoever, especially at that hour. The only success I’ve ever had with that is when dealing with an Apple representative to resolve a problem with one of the girl’s MAC…the thing is, I think I am more of a PC person than a MAC person, so I will rarely have the opportunity to be pleased with service again. My experience with Dell reps has been horrendous. I’ll either not purchase a Dell in the future or (as I did) I’ll hire someone local to help me with my computer issues.

  4. How cute that would make a great ad. cheerios ought to snap it up LOL Happy WW

  5. I am so jealous of being able to record 4 at once. We can only do 2 and then you can’t turn the channel! I would probably be in a whole heap of trouble if i could do 4 as i watch to many shows already. to think of how much i could add if i could do 4!
