My husband told me fairly recently, and we've been married 8 years, that we had standoffs, but they never worked because I was totally unaware they were going on. Oblivious as usual that there was an active difference of opinion going on. So he gave up waiting me out because......I just never noticed. What happens if it rains? It's called "Ty-man's mail." His magazines/letters/junk will pile up on the kitchen counter. And they will stay there until my face turns red and my eyes scrunch up and I stomp my feet. That's usually at about the two-week mark and he'll shuffle over and take them to his office desk. Where they'll sit in a bigger pile for months on end. Ah, marriage. When we got back from vacation in May our suitcases sat in the floor in the living room for 3 weeks waiting for someone to put them away. My ex-boyfriend had a standoff with me once about how long it would take me to clean the fridge. Much like Ismael, I had no idea that we were mid-standoff, so the answer was apparently "eternity", which is what he screamed at me when he finally cracked. Love that ELR episode.
