Ice Cream is the Answer

Facebook Chat. 6:00 PM.  Tuesday.

Emily:   What’s up?

Janet: being irritated at the whole of American government.

Ismael’s driver’s license expires today

so he went to renew it

they won’t renew it because his new green card hasn’t arrived

even though he has a letter from homeland security

stating that his conditional status has been removed

and his new card will be here in 60 days

but somehow the Indiana BMV doesn’t accept that as documentation

and they screw him over every single time he needs anything from them anyway

so yeah.

Emily: wow

Janet: I’m just being pissed :)

Emily: ice cream is the answer

End of story. Amen.

Postscript:  We now have ice cream.  It was fantastic. :)

Oh Janet…I’m sorry to hear it expired! So he won’t be able to work now will he? Goshdarnit. I’ll say some prayers that his card will arrive soon!

  2. April says:

Stupid rules. I can’t stand bureaucracy and how much people get off on imposing power over others. Thank god for ice cream.

  3. halalamama says:

@April I know. I understand the need for it and really do respect the government, as I teach about it. BUT, it really is difficult and expensive for people who are here legally…to the point where I understand how people either are illegal or fall out of status and become illegal. It’s a confusing maze sometime. And we find that sometimes the state government is worse than the federal!

  4. Megan says:

Sounds so much like the hassle we have with the French government! It’s neverending…

  5. halalamama says:

@Megan – how long have you been there? Ismael is still dealing with the drivers’ license issue. He had to take it to the state commissioner’s office, who actually said that Ismael is right – his license should have been for four years (and thus not expired) instead of 2 years as issued. So he’s going back to a branch today with that email.
